DISPUTE MEDIATION AND RESOLUTION

Workplace Mediation

It is only a matter of time until most private organisations will have written mediation into their personnel policies to establish more effective dispute resolution procedures.

What Is Workplace Mediation?

Workplace Mediation is a voluntary process where two or more parties agree to attend a meeting facilitated by an impartial mediator. The purpose of the meeting is to explore the issues of a difficult relationship in the workplace. Any meetings are confidential and any agreement at the end is directed by the two or more parties involved.

How It Works

The mediation process will most commonly involve three facilitated meetings. One each with the individual parties followed by a joint meeting where the parties involved can explore the issues with the hope of coming to an agreement for the future.

Benefits Of Workplace Mediation

  • Less costly (i.e. financially, management & HR time, employee stress & effects of an unproductive working environment)

  • It is quick to set up, normally taking no more than two days

  • More productive: more likely to give those involved the outcomes they want

  • More constructive: helps restore working relations rather than destroy them

  • Maintains confidentiality
